Blatant book plugging

After a really long gestation period on my end of things, it looks like it’s actually happening, with any luck for a premiere at Further Confusion in a month (eek).

The book has fourteen stories in it, which if I can remember off the top of my head (I’m at a coffee shop, and don’t have the source files here)

  • “Why Coyotes Howl,” the title story, which one might call therianthropic magic realism;
  • “Dreams Are For Vixens,” a sort of slice-of-life furry romance that ran in Touch many years ago;
  • “Seeing Things,” a non-furry suspense piece;
  • “Vertical Blanking,” a furry-sort-of VR story I hope MUCK players will not kill me for (which [livejournal.com profile] tacit published an earlier version of, under the even more cryptic title “Recondite Directives”);
  • “Daughter of Shadows,” a more-shaman-than-thou magic realism short;
  • “The Moon in Water,” a more-Charles-deLint-than-thou urban fantasy piece that I hope smurf pagans (a term [livejournal.com profile] genesis_w probably remembers) will not kill me for;
  • “Only With Thine Eyes,” hard science fiction following the somewhat Victorian style of epistolary novels;
  • “Still Life, With Espresso,” the most literary-ish magic realism piece here;
  • “Going to the Dogs,” the oldest piece and another furry story that never showed up in furry ’zines;
  • “The Fence,” my contribution to [livejournal.com profile] chuck_melville’s shared world The Furkindred and a piece which is not a ray of happy talking animal sunshine;
  • “Beast,” a science fiction retelling of a fairy tale;
  • “The Fox Maiden,” which, as the name clearly suggests, is about a unicorn;
  • “Without Evidence,” the only Ranea story here, a detective yarn featuring one of the nastiest—yet intriguing—villains I’ve written about;
  • “Travelling Music,” a novelette which, if I do say so, is much lighter and funnier than a nerd-meets-dream-alien-woman story has any particular right to be.

Buy a copy! No, buy two or three! Buy ten and pass them out on street corners!

More seriously, I’ll be at FC and will be signing for anyone interested. (As far as I know, cover artist [livejournal.com profile] kyoht will also be there, and would probably also sign it. I don’t know if she’ll make prints of it, but she has lots of other cool prints. Buy all of them. Then buy another copy of my book.)

And, quasi-seriously, I’m more than willing to entertain suggestions on how to promote the book, both online and off.

Yay! I always loved "Travelling Music," and I'm happy to see it coming back. And looking forward immensely to all the rest of this, too. I would've loved to see "Easter Eggs," but I suppose that'll have to wait for a collection of an entirely different sort. :-)

Wow, the book looks awesome. :)

It will be mine, but I can't make it to FC to get it signed. :/ Where will it be set for online sales?

It should be available at Sofawolf's web site (http://www.sofawolf.com/) when it's ready.

Dammit, so much for my FurCon spending embargo. ;)

Greetings!

KYOOL!!! And so many new stories too!!! (Hey, just b/c we aren't the be-all and end-all to each other doesn't mean I can't be a fan!!!) I must say tho'... WHEN were you planning to mention the existance of this little gem???? And how can I get a copy, pref. signed? How much? Etc., etc., etc.?

Hmmm... as far as promotion... will think on it... I will be mentioning about, for whatever that's worth.... I know there are sites for faire merchants to post their links... is there one for authors? Relevant boards, etc.... Con advertising perhaps.... That's what comes to mind at the mo'....

Btw, the lighthouse series... is it avail./going to be/was and I missed it?

Well, it's been mentioned every once in a while in my journal for the better part of two years now, I suspect. It's been a long project to put together, in no small part because I've just... not been fast in getting it going. As for mail order of signed copies and the like, I'll have to talk to the Sofawolf guys. The book's cover price is $15.95. I presume it's only going to be available direct from the publisher, although I'm not 100% sure of that.

I haven't done anything with the Revar & Mika stories similar to this, no. I'd like to revise and republish them, but probably not until there's a third story to go with them -- or something else that provides a definitive answer to, "Why should I buy this when I can get basically the same stories for free elsewhere?"

Greetings!

Yeah, yeah, rub it in that I haven't been around.... *gryn-sigh*

Uhm... one can? Where? (Trust me, ya ain't losing anything from me, at least, by the answer....)
More of that gorgeous artwork by kyoht? That'd be one thing for sure... can just SEE it w/illustrations by her.... OMG!!! Yes, a new convert, but a very happy one....

Btw... wasn't there a third story at one point? Or am I missing something again... it's been so long since I've read them....

And btw... word of mouth ain't bad advertising, tho' not usually successful as the only means....

A few of my older stories are available online at The Belfry (http://www.belfry.com/stories/), run by the person who plays [livejournal.com profile] revar on FurryMUCK (and one of my housemates out here in San Jose). I didn't include any of them in this collection because, well, they're online. Also, as far as I know, the two Revar novellas are still being sold by Yarf! I didn't include anything that's still in print. (A couple of the stories, I think, were online years ago, but aren't any longer, as far as I know.)

You can find Kyoht's artwork at <http://www.kyoht.com>. If I were going to do a new Revar & Mika collection, I don't think I'd ask her to do the art, just because it's not really her style (although I like her style a lot). There's a couple people I could think of, but I'll burn that bridge if I come to it. Or something.

In addition to "Gift of Fire" and "The Lighthouse," there was a short story with Revar and Jemara ("Flying Companion") and a short just about Jemara ("Wounds"). There is no third story with Revar and Mika, although I've started no less than three attempts to do one over the years--as well as having notes for another 'bat story' with new characters that would take place several decades later.

Greetings!

Ok... helps if I can find the previous comments! :-D Still leaves those other questions unanswered tho'....

Advertising? Hmm... You could always do a Furbid auction or two.

Rawr!

>I’m more than willing to entertain suggestions on how to promote the book,

I'll be happy to carry a banner ad for it on my website when I (re)launch it in the New Year

I won't be at FC, but I trust that one of the dealers will be selling it at Anthrocon 2005?

Cool! I'll have to keep an eye out for it.

Sofawolf Press: bookmarked.

Great cover. I'll definately be keeping an eye out for the book. It'll be a change from constantly buying computer stuff. :)
