I do tend to support the developers that I like--in no small part, that's the reason that Claw & Quill is hosted on TextDrive, the hosting company run by the guy who wrote Textpattern. I very rarely 'pirate' software for the same reason; either I need to like it enough to pay the price, or I need to find a free alternative. My grousing with Textpattern's development and support is, paradoxically, something of the reverse: I don't feel particularly well-supported by them, and the "it's free software, deal with it" attitude that was being espoused by several of the Textpattern forum members was particularly galling.
I've continued to beat on Textpattern but the import function--which I need, since I have nearly 700K worth of stories to convert from Movable Type--seems to be even more broken than in previous incarnations. I may try again, but I think I'm going to start experimenting with WordPress instead.
