San Diego, day 4

Today was... the zoo.

No, really, that was pretty much the whole day.

And we didn't get to all of it.

Actually, there was a bit more to the day, pre-zoo: there was the saga of the Neighbors From Hell. The people in the room next to ours were loudly screaming about alcoholism and parole violations and cursing every other word (just about literally) and, oh yes, there was the crying baby. We tried to drown them out with the grinding broken air conditioner but it didn't quite work. We reported them to the front desk, the front desk called them twice, went to see them once, and had the police see them once.

Did it work? Maybe. But when I turned off the air conditioner at 3:30 in the morning because it was getting too cold (it was broken not because it didn't work, but because it made weird grinding noises and didn't know when to quit being on), they were still arguing, just more quietly. And they all woke up at 6:30 and celebrated the morning by slamming their front door repeatedly.

We ended up getting moved to another room.

Anyway, the zoo was cool. Huge. But cool. I have pictures I'll try to share later, which will be much easier than describing things. We expected this might be the zoo and museum day, but it was just the zoo day.

This is also, incidentally, the day my car may be ticketed for being in the VTA light rail lot over 72 hours. If that happens, I'm going to protest the ticket, I think: I couldn't find the damn long-term parking spaces anywhere and I simply ran out of time looking for them. I hope if they ticket it, they just ticket it, and don't tow it. I'll be pretty pissed if my car isn't there when I get in on Thursday morning.

Dinner was at the Karl Strauss Brewery, the original location of a chain of brewpubs based here in San Diego. Both of us had the six beer "taster," which means I've actually had thirty-five ounces of beer (six five-ounce tasters, plus one of my mother's when she didn't like the brown ale after taking one sip of it).

Now, I get ready for bed, in a meandering fashion.

Pictures would be great! I like zoos, if I feel like the animals are happy and being treated humanely.

On a completely unrelated note, are you rooming with us during AC?

Yeah, the San Diego zoo is one of my few regrets from my handful of years in California: I never went. :(

Glad you're enjoying your vacation, though!

I don't think I've ever been to a proper zoo. *hmm*

How does it compare to Busch Gardens?

Well, the San Diego Zoo is only a third the size of all of Busch Gardens, but all of its 110 or so acres are animal exhibits, so it actually seems much, much bigger.

The big zoos do share with Busch Gardens the trait of requiring you to walk. A lot. This zoo had an extra $10 add-on for a 35-minute bus tour that also let you hop "express buses" that went around the park the rest of the day. We didn't get that, but I think it might be worth it. :)
