I really like French presses--that's the way I make coffee at home, normally. I just microwave the water while I grind the coffee, and take the water out of the microwave just when it starts to boil, let the bubbling stop, and then pour the water over the grounds.
The only other caveat is that you want not only a relatively coarse grind, but a consistent grind to help reduce the "muddiness" that French presses have. That means that you want a burr grinder, rather than a blade one, and preferably a burr grinder with a good reputation While I thought the Solis Maestro grinder I have was pretty excessive, for true coffee snobs it's an entry level grinder. :)
