"Narrow Road" PDF available

For those interested, I uploaded my story "The Narrow Road in Morning Light" to FurAffinity.

There's still, uh, three days to nominate it for an Ursa Major if you haven't. :)

That was nice. :)

Thank you!

I intend to write more with Hisae at some point (it's fairly obvious there's more to tell with her). The question I posed in the journal a couple months ago about what being a kitsune in a world of anthropomorphic animals would mean is related to that, although at this point just hypothetically. (Right now the honest answer for "why are the characters in 'Narrow Road' anthropomorphic animals?" is "because I wrote this for the program book of a furry con," but future stories might use the furry-ness a little more. Somehow.)

I imagine that if there were actual kitsune abroad, foxes in general would be painted with a stereotype that they are magical tricksters, a misconception many would no doubt turn to their advantage as court astrologers and such. And on the other hand, people who considered themselves enlightened would generally understand that this is just a myth, and that could provide cover for the actual kitsune. :)

I came up with a thesis for why the terms 'black' and 'white' as racial/ethnic signifiers would exist in a world populated by funny animals (and not of the Bakshi persuasion, necessarily), but it's not the kind of thing which would come naturally in conversation, at least not those such as Wednesday has.
