Car repairs

So, as it turns out, my worst-case estimate of car repairs being about $500 is short by $250. In addition to needing new brakes (not unexpected), Jiffy Lube damaged the oil filter mount, so I'm told. Since this is all at the dealer's, it carries the typical 50% surcharge. Why am I at the dealer, you ask? Well, I think it's a good idea to go to the dealer at least once so you meet the service people there. If I'd known this was going to be as major as it was, this would not have been time I'd picked to have gone to meet them, but such is life. (The mechanic has told me he's reserving the parts that Jiffy Lube broke so I can go back and harangue them over it. I am not the best of haranguers, but we'll see what happens.)

The $64,000 question -- well, the $750 question, technically -- is "can I pay for this." Yes, but it'll involve a lot of teeth-gritting.
