Indeed. From a practical standpoint, offering free web hosting services is a losing proposition even if you are selling computers to people. (While Apple pulls all sorts of strange numbers out of their butt for the "value" of .Mac, the hosting services would probably cost $20 a month from most ISPs, over and above the actual internet service.) From a public relations standpoint, though, Apple should definitely have created "email-only" accounts for, say, $10-15 a year, with existing iTools customers getting one year free.
