I'm up for breakfast at the La Quinta I stayed in just outside Shreveport, Louisiana. It seems like I'm "behind," but I did make at least 400 miles each day. Still haven't gone through a full roll of film and all the film I shot yesterday was in Mississippi. Lousiana was hit in afternoon cloud cover and the landscape for the first half was Florida's transplanted. I may get a couple shots here before heading into Texas. I hope to make Abilene today.

If I remember correctly from our trip in '95, John and I got to Gainesville on the first night, after a big dinner at the Polynesian with you and friends, post-packing the truck. We got to Hammond, Louisiana for second night somewhere along I-12. We cut diagonally across Louisiana on the third day, through Shreveport by afternoon, Texas state line by sunset, then to Dallas for third night (at FuzzyFox's place in Lewisville). I would have liked to have visited Terrell TX and Verdun manor, but it was out of the halloween season, and getting late.

They say the West begins at Ft. Worth, and sure enough we spotted a Jack in the Box after leaving FuzzyFox's place on the next morning. We tried getting lunch in Abilene, but couldn't find an appealing BBQ place. We took Business route 20 into the city, missed where the road designation took a zig-zag and ended up on a side street that was troublesome to turn around in. We instead had lunch a bit of a ways farther at a small roadside stop in Merkel, TX. John said it looked like catering for "Terminator 2".

Thanks for your updates from the road. It almost feels like I'm going along for the ride.

Enjoy the scenery while you can. Past Tyler, you won't see much but fields and dust.

Be careful in Dallas, especially if you're taking 635 around to Ft Worth... the drivers there are insane.

A bit envious, really... I went to school in Natchitoches, LA, which, depending on the way you drove, you may have passed through. (If you came up I35 to Shreveport) And I lived in Shreveport for 4 years.

Ahh.. memories.
