It's funny, isn't it, but weekends are important no matter what you're doing.

I only recently became employed again. The last time I had a full-time job was in March 2002, which I left to fly to Ireland, fly back to California, drive to Boston to study bookbinding for nine months, then drive back to California. At least eight months of that time was spent in total unemployment, during which I spent a lot of time drinking coffee and reading and futzing with my programming skills so they wouldn't go south. And yet, the weekends were still important to me, in part because during the week your friends are all off doing their daily grind, but on the weekends you have time to sync up with the rest of the non-working-world.

If nothing else, long-ish periods of unemployment have convinced me that I will greatly enjoy retirement. Assuming they don't keep draining my retirement savings before I reach that point, of course.
