I went with Mariner Write. It's more expensive than Mellel and in some ways not as powerful, but it's much closer to the way I think.
It's definitely worth checking out the demos of both of them, as well as checking out the demo of Nisus Writer Express. They all have their own strengths and weaknesses. (What I'd really like is NWE, with the features that Mariner has that NWE doesn't.)
