Yes, I made another attempt to shift my schedule back an hour, simply by setting my alarm clock an hour earlier, all the way back to 6:00 a.m. from 7:00 a.m. I ended up hitting the snooze button for just about a full hour. However, I usually do that these days, so that still gave me considerably more time this morning.

The theory behind this is to give me an hour or so of “personal project time” or so in the morning. During office hours, I’m pretty much working on office work, despite the occasional few minutes to sneak in a LiveJournal post like this. And, in the evenings, I only get personal time to work on things if I shut out the online world completely. There’s something to be said for doing just that, granted, and hoping that it does not cause undue panic among friends and acquaintances. (This is a peculiar artifact of our “always connected” generation. I call my mother weekly, each call lasts 45-60 minutes, and this is more communication than many of my friends who no longer live at home have with their parents. If, however, I stay off MUCKs and AIM for just two consecutive days, by the third day people I’ve never met face-to-face wonder if they should be filing missing persons reports.) But, since so many of my friends aren’t “morning people,” it means that if I actually got my butt in gear early, I’d get stuff done.

Which… isn’t what happened today, exactly, of course. I did some reading for a personal project of mine, and responded to a LiveJournal post relating to it. I had time to make a cup of coffee before this, read my “homework” in a leisurely fashion, and still managed to catch the 8:15 light rail (rather than scrambling, and often failing, to get out of the house in time to catch the 8:30 one).

Of course, this was all made possible by seriously aiming to get myself in bed by 11:00 p.m., and not blowing past that by a horrific amount. Managing to keep that up on weekdays won’t be impossible, but it’ll be difficult.

Now, if I can just start training myself to only hit the snooze button for a half hour…

Stubborn biolocigal clock.

I know what you mean. I wanted to get up an hour earlier this morning myself, but between the snooze alarm and not skipping breakfast, it was pretty much the exact same time when I settled into my routine. And I am regularly on in the mornings, if you ever wanna chat.

Ah, the snooze button. The bane of modern society.

So why is it you generate so much interest, while I left for almost a week recently and only three people seemed to notice?

Put the alarm clock well out of arm's reach, like across the room, so you have to get out of bed to hit the snooze button. I do that, and it's cut down the number of times I hit the snooze button to once.

They've invented a clock now, that after you hit the snooze button, it rolls off your table and hides in a random place in your room, so you have to get up and find it to turn it off.

What, me worry?

. . . about not seeing you around online for a few days, that is. I do that myself from time to time, it does manage to dispel the illusions that I really am very important inside cyberspace, by ramming home what I am outside it.

Not to say I'm not anyone at all, just that the world will indeed still spin if I disappear for a while, and the sun will still rise if "the shadowvixen" manages to disappear for a length of time.

I think it's becoming a habit to just . . . step off and find other things to do.

. . . now if only I actually had more things to do . . .

I should try and change my sleep schedule...the problem is when it comes to going to sleep...I never can go on time!
