My web site and e-mail has been down for over 18 hours now and I have no idea if the hosting company is even working on it (it's not my machine, and they don't seem to have anything obvious like a "current issues" page on their web site). This is, y'know, the address on all my resumes. Including ones that don't have any other way to contact me, because I didn't want to have my phone number on publicly-accessible copies.

So basically, if anyone new is trying to get in touch with me via email, they can't. And if I didn't get back to someone with an alternate email address, the chances are I'm not going to today. I can't even check the already collected email from yesterday to fish for phone numbers until I get back home. (This is one of the very few times I've been glad the mail client I use has no IMAP support -- forcing me to use POP means that I can't just leave all the mail on the server.)

As an added bonus, one of my other domains is inaccessible now, apparently because this machine is listed as a secondary name server, and for some reason that's enough to make it impossible to reach.

I may start using my mac.com address as my business contact from now on. Say what you will about it marking me as an in-your-face Apple user -- the chances are when it goes down, it's going to be worked on VERY FAST.

I suspect the friend who's hosting my domains is too polite to mention the company by name, so we should be clear that it is not him telling you that, from all appearances, managed.com is completely incompetent. (This is not the first problem and a couple of the other ones were egregious, but this is the longest one I recall in terms of outage, and the most stressful to me personally.)

*hugs* I hope it gets resolved very quickly.

I'm also stunned at how long this has lasted. I can't imagine a company too lazy to reach over and reboot a single machine that a customer left them a message about yesterday evening, and it's now, oh, afternoon the following business day.

It's pretty remarkable, yes. I'd be tempted to start moving things over to TextDrive, the place Claw & Quill is decomposing at; their uptime is honestly a little flaky these days, but they're very responsive and have a "Current Issues" RSS feed with near real-time status updates about individual servers bouncing and being rebooted. But, they won't let me host a MUCK there, and I like [livejournal.com profile] dracomistle as a sysadmin. Just... not when managed.com is holding Agii hostage.

I know. We are both thinking it's not going to come up before next week at this rate. Which is bad for me, because I'm gearing up for the con... but definitely super-bad for you, given that you were using your email for professional purposes. :P

And it's hard on [livejournal.com profile] dracomistle. :P

Oh Hell. I was giving you a follow-up e-mail to my last comment post too and thought it odd you didn't reply. *HUG* I hope it will get fixed soon.

My "other" e-mail is wattsm at mac dot com. (And I have the other other email of layotl at gmail dot com.) I may start using the former as my business address and the latter as my personal address, or get another personal address with a real name attached to it. ("Layotl" is Chipotle's last name. Why does a fictional character need an email address? It seemed like a good idea at the time.)

Ouch, that sucks. We talked about Dreamhost and while they are oversold, they usually get to me within the hour if something's wrong or I'm experiencing any sort of problems when I use their little support forms.

So thanks for the warning of sorts about this managed.com, and I hope it all works out for you. Some webhosts can be a pain in the ass.
