Vacation

I'm going on an arguably needed vacation, Saturday through Wednesday, meeting my mother in San Diego. (Actually, I leave godawful early Saturday morning, and get back even godawful earlier Thursday morning and go into work!)

If anyone has any suggestions for the trip, I'm all ears. I don't know much about the area. I have vague ideas for restaurants, because, well, that's what I do, and of course I know about the San Diego Zoo. The only thing "set" is a reservation at Arterra on Saturday night, and I have an idea of going to Bali Hai for brunch on Sunday. (Bizarrely, San Diego is apparently famous for great champagne brunch places.) And, Tuesday or Wednesday, we'll probably go to Tijuana, and maybe get to a gourmet Mexican restaurant that's actually (gasp) in Mexico.

Hey, hope this isn't too late, but I'm down in the San Diego area, so if you need a ride, I should be around all Saturday, and about half of sunday. Sadly, I don't know of any particularly good places, though I could probably find one by asking around.

Sadly, I don't know a whole lot to do beyond that. The only touristy thing I have thought about in my own town here is the Midway and the boat that they filmed Master and Commander on right next to each other, if that is your cup of tea. Beyond that, San Diego seems to be about shopping and spending money.
